Google’s very own smartphone with Motorola heading hardware and HTC with production is the Google Pixel. The phone will be Google’s design through and through with exceptional core specs and equivalently high price. The Pixel is available in 32GB and 128GB variants.
Display and Design
The Pixel features a 5.0-inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution capable of showing crisp colors and HQ media for entertainment and gaming. The display is 2.5D curved glass and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone’s larger counterpart, the Pixel XL, comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display, also AMOLED. The Pixel comes with curved edges and a tapered back for better grip. The back is covered with glass, which is also where the phone’s fingerprint scanner is situated. The phone does not feature a physical home button and features Google’s G logo at the back. The speaker on the Pixel is situated on the bottom edge. The phone is available in black, silver and blue exteriors. The phone measures 143.8 x 69.5 x 8.5 mm while weighing 143 grams.
Platform and Memory
The Pixel runs the latest Nougat 7.1 with the new Pixel UI on a Snapdragon 821 chipset, also the latest, with 2.15 GHz quad-core processor and 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of storage with no option to expand. The RAM and CPU will handle demanding apps as well as multitask with ease. The phone comes with an auto-cleanup feature that clears space when the limit is reached. Google also provides unlimited space via the Google Photos app for life at maximum resolution with the phone. Apps such as Allo and Duo come preloaded with the phone, and Google Assistant, that is touted to be better than Siri, all of which face major improvements with the latest OS.
Cameras and Battery
The rear camera on the phone is 12.3-megapixels and is the highlight of the phone with an f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, laser auto-focus and LED flash. The rear camera records videos in 4K and is equipped with video stabilisation. The front camera is 8-megapixels with an f/2.4 aperture that also takes quality pictures. The phone is fuelled by a 2,770mAh battery that lasts twenty hours at best. The phone is equipped with Quick Charge technology that provides the phone upto 7 hours of charge in 15 minutes.
Connectivity and other features
The Pixel can hold dual nano-SIMs. Connectivity features of the phone include 4G mobile data support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.2. The bottom edge features USB Type C for charging and data transfers. The back of the phone features a fingerprint scanner.
